Turkey commemorates ninth year of attempted coup by FETO terrorist group
To mark the occasion, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to participate in various ceremonies in Ankara. The day is officially recognized as Democracy and National Unity Day.
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz reflected on the anniversary by recalling the widespread public response to President Erdogan’s call on the night of the coup, when millions took to the streets in defense of democracy. In a message shared on X, he paid tribute to the fallen and the injured, pledging to continue honoring their sacrifice by promoting unity and the vision behind the “Century of Türkiye.”
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also shared his thoughts in a message on X, stating that the coup attempt was stopped thanks to Erdogan’s “foresight” and the Turkish people’s “unwavering will.”
“Those betrayal networks pursuing the goal of bringing Türkiye to its knees by aligning with foreign intelligence agencies have seriously underestimated one thing: our nation’s steadfast commitment to freedom and justice, and the strength of our state,” he wrote.
